Would you wear Mineral Makeup on your Wedding Day?
We talk to the talented Hrisoula from Mural Beauty about mineral makeup.
At The Good Blog, we're believers in mineral makeup because it doesn't clog our skin, we experience fewer break-outs and it's quick and easy to apply.
Read on to see why Hrisoula wore mineral makeup on her wedding day, and the amazing benefits this super powder has to offer!
I wore mineral makeup on my wedding day. At first, I was a bit suspect. I questioned whether it would last the distance. I was also going against the grain with all my friends who were getting married and using liquid foundation. After my makeup trial with mineral makeup, I was hooked! After my makeup trial with mineral makeup, I was hooked! I found once I got the hang of it, applying mineralised products in the morning ended up being much faster than my traditional liquid foundations.
While mineral makeup is widely used, its advantages are widely unknown. Below I have outlined the hidden benefits that sold this product to me:
♥ There are less 'filler' products in mineral makeup. Traditional makeup can include preservatives such as parabens, chemical dyes and fragrances. Mineral makeup leaves these out and in general has less ingredients, leaving in the more natural minerals such as mica, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
♥ Since mineral makeup is free of skin-irritating ingredients like talc and chemical dyes, it is a good choice for those that suffer from rosacea or acne. Not only is mineral makeup rosacea/acne-friendly, it effectively helps cover and correct surface redness. Some studies suggest using mineral makeup can lead to less breakouts and skin aggravation in the long term as the products' formula is non-irritating and non-comedogenic, resulting in pores not becoming clogged.
♥ The titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in mineral make-up are both sun blocks so mineral makeup products do have a degree of sun protection. It is not enough to simply wear your mineralised foundation with no protection under it, but you can be rest assured there is a degree of skin protection to top up your usual sunscreen.
♥ It doesn’t matter what type of skin you have, be it dry, oily or combination skin. Mineral makeup is hypoallergenic and works with your own natural oils to create an even coverage. Remember though, your skin type will determine how you will need to prep your skin prior to your makeup application. You will still need to moisturise and use an appropriate primer to keep any oils at bay or use a hydrating mist to hydrate the minerals and refresh your skin throughout the day.
♥ Because mineral makeup is so pure it has a long shelf life, up to 24 months. This is because there is nothing in it to help bacteria grow, which means it can last a lot longer. Traditional liquid makeup will only last for up to 12 months assuming proper care is taken.
♥ The best foundation is one you forget you are wearing. Many traditional foundations contain talc which can feel heavy on the skin. Formulas containing talc often settle into fine lines which cause creasing. Due to mineral makeup being like a second skin, with a barely-there feel and talc-free, there is no build up in our fine lines so no creasing should occur.
Hopefully, this small snippet into the hidden benefits of mineral makeup makes you want to try it! A quick application tip - all you need is a kabuki brush and some circular motions to apply the product onto the skin.
My go-to mineral powders are Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics for my Natural Mineral Loose Foundation, which gives a beautiful medium coverage. To set this foundation in place, the Youngblood Loose Mineral Rice Setting Powder means my makeup will not budge for the rest of the day.

Hrisoula
